We love maps and we love travel quotes, so we put the two together...
At elevencorners we love maps and we love travel quotes. So we decided to make one (the map) out of the other (the travel quotes).
Why do we love maps? Apart from being extremely useful (perhaps essential!) when you travel, maps are one of the great symbols of travel, like a compass dial or a trail of footprints. The familiar outlines and coastlines of a world map are comforting because we know them so well. They remind us of where we are and where we've been. They remind us of just how much world is out there.
Even when all other information is removed - place names, country borders and contours, for example - even when only shapes and outlines remain, a world map is still enticing. It's hard to resist looking at a map. A map is a distillation of geographical knowledge presented in a neat little visual package.

Why do we love travel quotes? We love travel quotes and proverbs because they too distill knowledge - travel knowledge - into neat little packages, of words. The best travel quotes are pithy, and we do like a bit of pith.
Whether or not you agree with the sentiment behind a particular travel quote, each quote expresses something about travel in a way that makes you stop and think. And that's got to be a good thing, right? Try this: "The mountains are calling and I must go" (John Muir). Just 8 words! Yet these 8 words say so much about the way that so many people feel about travelling: it's somehow irresistible, we can't say exactly why, we just know that we have to go. Or this: "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" (Lao Tzu). How true, in so many walks of life.
Unique world maps made of travel quotes We think that our travel quote world map prints are unique. As far as we know, you can't get anything quite like them anywhere else.
These prints look like world maps from a distance but when you get close you'll see that they're actually made of dozens and dozens of different travel quotes. The individual letters of each quote are coloured according to whether they fill a space that is occupied by sea or land on the world map.
We use many different travel quotes and proverbs. Some of them are well known, some less so. Some make you think or smile. Some show great wisdom and some are downright flippant. We fit about 80 quotes or proverbs onto each world map print so there's always a good variety of different quotes.
Travel quote world map prints make an unusual gift for anyone interested in travel. Hang one on your wall and you might find yourself absent mindedly reading a quote or two while you have a cup of coffee.
We can also print a line of bespoke text at the bottom of your print - this could be a quote of your own or a personal message ("For Andrew - Enjoy your round the world trip!").

Favourite Quote? So, what's our favourite travel quote? Today, it's this, from Benjamin Disraeli: "Like all great travellers, I have seen more than I remember and remember more than I have seen". Is there a more insightful quote about travel than this? Tomorrow our favourite quote might be different. It might be something upbeat like "Wherever you go, go with all your heart" (Confucius) or something direct and simple like "Explore, and explore, and explore" (Ralph Waldo Emerson).
Which quotes and proverbs appear on our world map prints? All the travel quotes and proverbs we use are in the public domain. As we come across suitable quotes, we add them to our list. Every travel quote world map print we make is different - each one features a different selection of quotes in a different sequence. If there's a quote that you particularly want to see on your print, just let us know and we'll make sure it's there.
